Candlesnuff Fungus

Walking over Red House Common this morning I came across this very large example of Candlesnuff fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon). I read somewhere that this is a (weakly) bioluminescent fungus (phosphorus in the mycelliium reacts with oxygen) although I've never seen any images of it in action.
