Tiny Tuesday: Nickels

Shirleyray is continuing the "T-I-N-Y" initial theme for Tiny Tuesdays - so today's challenge is to produce a macro of something beginning with "N".

We have a stash of US currency left from our previous travels (as we'll be back before too long to visit Son #1 again, we don't get rid of out left-overs). So in honour of shirleyray who herself lives in the USA I made a pile of Nickels for this blip.

With apologies to our US blippers (including shirleyray herself!), for those who don't know the nickel is the 5-cent coin as you can see. It always amuses us that the nickel is larger than the dime, which is worth 10c - is that weird or what? (they're both silver in colour).

"E pluribus unum" is, of course, the US motto meaning "out of many, one" (maybe The Donald should think of that a bit more?!).

The designs on nickels have changed over the years. According to Wikipedia, the design shown here is the "Jefferson Nickel" which was struck from 1938 to 2003. (Note: Monticello was Jefferson's home.)

The coin is 75% copper and 25% nickel metal; seemingly it currently costs 9 cents to make each one(!) so the US mint is considering using cheaper metals.
