Hiding from the bull!

After breakfast Ro and I were back out! We walked through various streets that seemed more lived in than touristy, to the river- The Guadalquivir. We walked along the banks to the Torre del Oro. It’s a beautiful tower. You can go up and have a great view of the cathedral but I didn’t want to go up so many steps! So we walked on to the bullring. This was a really interesting visit. We saw lots of paintings, including some by Goya. (He was very anti because one of his friends a picador was killed by a bull.). It all started, to teach the military, mastery of their horses and bravery. They had various exercises etc. Now it is the chief of police who decides how many points a Toreador is awarded and if he is a good toreador! All really fascinating! The special clothes they wore are magnificent! We saw the chapel with tiles on the wall with the prayers the toreador used before going into the ring, the jug of fear- he would have a last drink from before facing the bull. And then the arena. Here Ro is hiding behind the wooden shield - you can see the gouged out wood where the bull hit it!

We joined the others for some lunch and the men left us to go to the match. The four of us went for a walk to some swings and on to the science museum! A very interesting museum! We were the only visitors! Little Missy found lots of it interesting, so did my daughter-in-law and myself. With a bit of guesswork and her iphone we worked out a lot of the labels. It’s quite a small place with very few interactive experiments for children. A photo of one in the extras. We sat opposite each other with a sort of screen thing between us. Each could illuminate herself with lights and adjust the intensity of them to see both herself and the other at the same time! I’m not sure what it was supposed to demonstrate! There was also a model to show how a pinhole camera worked!

We walked home and LM fell asleep. Poor kid was so tired. We bought food and ate it in their flat. I read a bed time story and stayed and chatted till the match finished. 3:3 no-one will be happy! Not sure what time he will get back!
It’s late and there are so many things to do and see tomorrow! I want to visit the cathedral. There is talk of a ride in a horse drawn open carriage too! There are so many of these around Seville!

Extras: science experiment; park; a toreador prayer. I haven’t managed to translate it yet.
