Lost in Thought

A kit of parts

A quick blip tonight as Gill's mum has been taken back into hospital and we have changed our plans for the next couple of days so we can visit her.

I quite enjoy a little photo gadget DiY and have had some success with  Chinese Lantern Flash Diffusers.   The lantern itself is intended as a collapsible water carrier for artists but as it is a relatively neutral colour it works well as a diffuser.  The Ikea drawer liner is rather like solid bubble wrap and fixed to the bottom of the lantern, it strengthens the degree of diffusion.  To fix it onto the flash I use a piece of EPP foam cut into a hexagon to fit the opening of the lantern and with a slot in the middle which fits over the flash.  I made one a while ago for my smaller Canon flash,  this one is intended for the Yongnuo.

The end product looks like this.  It does a similar job to this,   at a considerably reduced cost :-)

For an even cheaper version, just fold a strip of the drawer liner over the end of the flash and hold in place with an elastic band or velcro.  Not so easy to fit to the flash but it works remarkably well.

Tagged for wide angle Wednesday as it does spread the light out over a wide angle :-)

We're away to Cardiff on Friday for Rachel's RCGP ceremony so backblipping and minimal commenting until we return home.
