Leaving Home

The Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth has been as white as snow all summer.

The 150,00 gannets which use it as a breeding colony cover every available inch for that whole time.

Now as winter approaches they are all beginning to leave, returning to their feeding grounds all over the North and the Baltic Seas.

Leaving a dull brown and desolate windswept lump just off the East Lothian coast.

Until next year.
