Touch and Go

We decided to walk up a couple of slightly less well known Wainwrights today , in the Windermere area. After parking at Troutbeck we walked to Sour Howes and Sallows. (  No idea where these names came from. ) There was a freezing cold wind but it was sunny and dry.
The photo is taken quite near the start of the walk and the little fell in the valley is Troutbeck Tongue!
The extra is some chickens ,I liked the light on their combs. I heard a cockerell going crazy and peered over a stone wall and there he was with all his ladies dancing attendance!

On the way back to Keswick the reserve fuel light came on, that was ok we had enough to get to Rheged petrol station. The only problem was that they were closed when we got there due to a fire, apparently.
We  were showing 24 miles left and Keswick was 16 so that was alright. But the A66 as many Blippers will know is up hill and down dale, and this gave a variety of readings, the least optimistic of which was 3 miles worth of fuel left when we still had 13 miles to go!
We made it to the filling station in Keswick on vapour I think, a bit fraught. Never mind we felt a lot better after a pint at the D and G and some fish and chips!
Speaking of pints, we and a few local Blippers are meeting at the Wainwright at 7 pm tomorrow ( Wednesday) evening if anyone would care to join us.
