Bright and sunny at Stafford services

Left Northampton at around 9.30, arriving in Glenridding at almost 6.00pm. Not entirely the fault of traffic as we did stop off in Manchester for a couple of hours for me to attend a meeting.

It was all going swimmingly until after a coffee break at Stafford services which is where today’s blip was taken. Accident on M6 between 17 and 18 created “Long Delays”. We headed off up the A500 near Stoke and onto the A34 through some pleasant countryside until we hit the M60. Mostly stuck behind slow moving trucks on windy A roads. I never know whether it’s a good decision to get off the motorway and find another route when long delays are displayed or stay on and brave it out. The decision to take an alternative route cost us about an hour.

The final leg of the trip was fine once we’d left the Manchester ring road and joined M61 and finally M6 again.

Back at the Inn on the Lake in Glenridding for 4 nights. A pleasant surprise to be upgraded to one of their superior lake view rooms which is spectacular. Looking forward to getting into the Fells tomorrow.

Thank you all for the hints from yesterday, I’ll follow them up.
