Rotorua

Backblip.

What a difference a day and a few hundred kilometres make! Glorious sunshine for our drive to Rotorua, via some wonderful stopping places.

First was Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand where we picked up pieces of pumice stone from the beach to bring home and watched a pair of black swans with their white cygnet swim along the edge of the lake.

Then it was a stop at a mud pool where the mud bubbled and erupted like so many frogs jumping,-). Next it wax the stunning Huka Falls with the pure ice water rushing down at a rate of 220,000 litres per second.

Also included in the tour was a visit to Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Resort, where we had a wonderful Maori guide called Kiri whose family had led tours there since 1901. One of the highlights here was this fabulous geyser, called Pohutu, the Big Splash, and it certainly perfotmed for us, spraying us with mist into the bargain:-).

We have two nights in Rotorua and the rooms in our hotel are huge with two king size beds!

Finally managed to catch up with one photo a day although there are many others I’d like to have shown you. Wifi is okay now only because there are few people using it, so not sure how it will be later on!
