Sir John Soane's Museum

Situated in Lincoln's Inn Fields, SirJohn bought three houses, the first he and his family lived in, the second was for his collections and the third he let out but incorporating the back rooms into the second house!  He was an architect by profession but could not resist acquiring artworks and relics from classical times, the most amazing of them all being the sarcophagus of King Seti I.  This is made in Egyptian alabaster and is enormous.  The interior and exterior are engraved with lines of tiny hieroglyphics.   A copy is to be made to be placed near the entrance to the Valley of the Kings.  His sons were not really interested in his collections so Sir John protected them by Act of Parliament for the nation and the house has been relatively "untouched" for 180 years!

We walked back to the Farmers' Club stopping at a wine bar for a snack opposite the Law Courts.  In the evening we joined our friends and went out for a meal in a French restaurant.  A good day out.
