Nelson's Column

A different picture of Admiral Nelson.   The column is made out of Dartmoor granite and was mostly paid for by private investors in  the 1840's,  the Tsar of Russia footing more than a quarter of the bill!

Today an old friend was celebrating his 80th with a lunch party at the Hurlingham Club which is near Putney Bridge.  This was very exciting as we had never been there before!  The taxi drove us up the long drive passing gardens and tennis courts to the front door.  We had a very good time meeting old faces we had not seen for some time and after the celebration took the tube back!
