Hey Joe

Today I visited what some will know as Handel's House; where George Frideric Handel lived and composed from 1723-59. However, and obviously immeasureably more significant, it was also where James Marshall Hendrix (1942-70) lived with his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham in 1968-69. The Handel story is of course interesting. But to stand in the little top floor flat where the world's greatest rock guitarist lived, practiced and composed was an experience and a half.

I just wanted to stand in silence and absorb.

There was one album on display in a museum display case; his first with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, called "Are You Experienced". I have it at home.

Widely recognised as the greatest electric guitar player ever, Jimi Hendrix was a true creative genius, taking the electric guitar and indeed rock music to places they had never been before. His influence lives on, in all of us who have ever picked up and plugged in a Strat.

Here he is from, of all places, the Lulu Show, recorded in January 1969 when he was living in this flat: Jimi on the Lulu Show
