The Springston Dairy

A dairy is a New Zealand thing. This is a classic with the Tip Top sign and combination of business at the front and home at the back.

Growing up it's where you went to buy an ice cream, choosing a flavour that was rolled and placed in a cone in front of you. Sometimes it was dipped in chocolate to become a Brown Derby.

5 cents brought a generous selection of lollies and there were pies, drinks, newspapers, and very dodgy magazines.

Often there was a small selection of grocery items and of course bottles of milk in glass, that in time were replaced by cartons and plastic.

Milk bars is the Australian version, drug stores in the US, and corner shops in England.

There are fewer of them now as petrol stations come with a shop, and supermarkets are everywhere. The Springston Dairy is a classic and one day I will check out if they have cone ice creams.

Thank you for the generous hearts, stars, and comments for Sunday's blip in the mountains.

Today has been a rough day for Dad. It's been rough for us all.

Today's gratitude: For memories and reflection.
