My Christmas Day

I am going to be spending Christmas Day in Shetland this year at work which to be honest, I am not looking forward to at all. I love Shetland - but work? It's a job that is just slowly falling apart and makes me feel very sad. I am not used to not trusting people, and it's becoming that for me.

Anyway, we decided to go away to Windermere for the weekend with a couple and their kids, and have an early Christmas - and it was fantastic. Presents, Christmas Trees, decorations, fantastic Christmas meal - all I could dream of. Wonderful, wonderful times.

And the best bit for the kids? They were allowed to see "Star Wars - A New Hope" for the first time in their lives, and they loved it!

A lot of people grumble about the commercialism of Christmas - and indeed it has become something very distorted in its rampant worship of the God of Materialism. But there is something simple and joyful and wonderful about the tradition of the tree, the presents, the lights and tinsel, the warmth of a happy home, and the fellowship of good friends with whom one can be one's self.

I am blessed and grateful to have a wonderful partner, and wonderful friends too. These blessings more than outweigh the sad things - by miles!

A perfect Christmas Day!

God bless you this Christmas, even if I am a little early!

PS The best bit about doing Christmas not at Christmas is that the shops are all open if you forget anything for the Christmas meal :-)
