Baroque by Candlelight

A glorious evening of music by the Royal Northern Sinfonia. And for once we did not have to travel to Gateshead to hear them, they came to Carlisle. An excellent concert in St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, Carlisle. The programme said it was Baroque by Candlelight. Well, by candlelight it certainly was and that made for a magical atmosphere, but there was more than Baroque – we got quite a lot of Tchaikovsky as well, superb choices. This stately church, said to be an excellent example of a Georgian town church, complete with galleries overlooking the nave, was full - a capacity audience very appreciative of some very good musicianship. Wonderful evening.
