Serious discussion

Hazelina has been keeping an eye on the repairing of Brougham Bridge and has blipped some great photos at different stages. She said it was nearly finished, so we decided to go and have a look. Fortuitously, we happened upon the last day of work and were told that it would be open officially on Wednesday. We talked for a while to a guy on the site and he told us a lot about the work, really interesting. Across the river from where we were standing is the castle and we asked him about the people down below. Apparently they are the ‘important’ ones, the site manager, the engineer, the designer etc. What they were doing was testing the bridge. Weight had been placed on the bridge and readings taken at different points. There was a lot of discussion, because some slippage had been found – in the bit that had not been mended! Serious stuff, but it should not stop the bridge from being opened and that will be so welcomed by local walkers and cyclists.
