Timelines helps me make sense of history. I find them a very useful way to see how all the bits connect together, and that's particularly helpful for Landscape History where it's important to see relationships between events, developments, society, leaders, trends, growth, decline, constants, and lots of other elements. So I've made my base timeline which I'll add to whenever I find dates that need to be noted. Currently it only has rulers and royal houses so when I read 'in the Tudor period' I don't need to rack my brain about when that was. But it's going to fill up very quickly.
