Postcard from Meniscus Winey

Back Blip from Akaora

We left Christchurch early in the morning. When we arrived in Akaora it sure was warm. John mowed the lawns for me. The poor plants were so dry, some I think will not survive.

Later in the afternoon we took a drive the Meniscus Winery. It was hot with around 33c by then. They use to have their tasting rooms in the Village. John had been there. They now have the tasting room at the winery. Sure has a great view looking over Akaora.

We were invited into their house to see the Monarch butterfly caterpillars and chrysalis, they have. When they were down in the village they had a glasshouse for the Monarch butterflies... one is being built by the winery soon. It was interesting talking to them and seeing all the caterpillars and chrysalis.  With our dinner that night we had their lovely Pinot Gris.

 Information on the winery
The vineyard is located on the south edge of the township of Akaroa on the ancient crater rim of the spectacular Banks Peninsula situated approximately 80 km to the south east of Christchurch in New Zealand. The philosophy of the vineyard is to grow grapes to produce wine that is reminiscent of the great wines of France to whom the Village owes its existence being settled by the French in July of 1840. The tension that holds the vineyard to the edge of the crater is similar to the upturned edge of liquid in a glass and is from which the Meniscus name has been derived.
