Today I have mostly been repairing olive nets so that we can tidy them away in the shed where they belong, happy in the knowledge that next time we have olives worth harvesting our nets will be fit for purpose. This apparently was what we failed to do immediately after our previous olive harvest in 2014. That year, our kind friend Jimmy came to our place in his pick-up truck to transport our olives to the press but he stopped it with its front wheels on top of the crumpled nets. When he started her up to drive away, the front wheels span and made friction-burn holes in one of the nets. Discovering these holes, of which there are several, just when we were ready to begin harvesting this year, was not our happiest moment of all time, but we worked around the problem. Patches will be better.
