Almost a disaster

Went down to the coast to Hythe to buy some artist materials for our granddaughter this morning, ending up spending most of the day in the town and along the coast.

We were successful in deciding what to buy and also bought a set of watercolours and ink pens for me to have a go at a long-held ambition to try some topographical drawing and painting. Long-serving readers of this journal will remember I've had this ambition for a long while making a start a couple of years ago.

A cheese scone and coffee preceded a good long walk along the esplanade which was where today's blip was taken as the setting sun hid behind a dissipating shower cloud. This, and the extra, were the only two shots without shafts of light across the image in the wrong place. I thought it was due to flaring by the sun but it turned out that the UV filter had somehow shattered and of course, light was being refracted by shards and edges of glass in the filter. At least the lens was undamaged. How did that happen? Since I've had the new camera I've kept it in its case and put it back each time. It's a mystery but not such a disaster as it might have turned out to be.
