The Edge of the Wold

Hummingbird....

...hawkmoth.

What a treat to have these day flying moths feeding on the Lantana flowers in the gardens of the villa where we were staying. They are so quick and so precise in probing with a long proboscis into flowers for nectar. They are regular migrants to the UK, but living in the far north of England, it's a rare year when I see them at home.

Today was spent fairly close to base. We ventured into Ortigia again and enjoyed the vibrant and colourful market with the bounty of fruit, vegetables and fish. The main objective was to marvel at the Caravaggio painting Burial of St Lucia in the Santa Lucia alla Badia church in the extraordinary Piazza del Duomo. The secondary objective was to enjoy a superb Gelato - objective achieved.

This is the third backblip - in reverse order. Sorry that 2 of the three have been invertebrates rather than sun-kissed scenes of Sicily, but that's what interests me. Look out for the remaining backblips as time permits over the next few days.
