Greenwich

A beer on the Greenwich Meridian and a look around at the 1869 built clipper ship "Cutty Sark" and in front the tiny "Gipsy Moth V" in which the 64 year old, later Sir, Francis Chichester completed the first single handed world circumnavigation in 1967. I was however more a fan of (Sir) Robin Knox-Johnstone's similar journey two years later, but non-stop. I still (2017) have his book of that journey. He took 313 days and coincidentally in the week I publish this entry in December 2017, the record for solo non stop has been  beaten again and is at 42 days but for a multihull. The single hull record of 74 days was reset in January 2017.

Look closely at the nice flared trousers! AndyW and ChrisduC on the right are quite moderate compared to ..... I am pretty sure ..... IanP another Norfolk connection and involved in matters yachts. We spent quite a bit of time together as he seldom had a roof over his head and never a car always needing a lift. My later diaries show his addresses amongst others as "The Nest, Appledram Lane, Chichester" and later sometime in late 1977 as  "c/o British Yacht "Coconuts", Bryer, Scilly Isles".
