The Hollow Mountain

Another gorgeous day, if a touch cool, but no frost, with us at least.

After a visit to the library we drove up to Pulpit Hill again to see what was looking good. Evereything was, but I picked Ben Cruachan as looking particularly crisp today - we had to wait a while until the sun hit it.

At 1126m Cruachan is the highest point of Argyll. Within the horseshoe of peaks is a reservoir which feeds the pumped storage hydro-electric scheme inside the mountain. For those of you who have no objection to having 300m of rock above your heads, there are guided tours by mini-bus through the 1 kilometre tunnel. Great fun! Cruachan is 24 miles from Oban by road, but only 13 as the crow flies.
