Raw Tunnel

A few months ago, Hidden London in conjunction with the London Transport Museum announced some new tours. One of them was a photographers' tour at Euston. We've done a few of their tours in the past in various London locations usually inaccessible to the general public. This was different, limited to 8 guests per tour, tripods and photography was the main purpose.

After a short introduction giving the history of London Underground at Euston, we were off through Euston mainline station into the regular underground network. Then through some doors to some off-limits areas last in public use in the mid-1960s. It was fascinating seeing these tunnels frozen in time from the period. Posters of the time, well aged but still legible adorned walls. Original features like a ticket office were well preserved. We were also able to get above the in use platforms and see the trains and passengers from above.

For me (Chris), I loved the tunnels. Constructed using the same techniques as the main underground tunnels, these were access routes and/or ventilation routes. The blip is just one of many and there are a couple more in the extras.
