Faustina

Had to make a trip to a charity shop in Kirkintilloch this morning. It was only because I was looking for a specific charity shop that I realised the town has so many of them. It's definitely the place for bargains if browsing in charity shops is your thing - I don't think I've seen so many charity shops on one street before!

As we were having our Tuesday group of the Ramblers' Christmas Lunch this afternoon, I thought I'd better take my blipfoto while I was in Kirkintilloch, rather than embarrass (or incriminate) my fellow walkers. So I headed up to Peel Park and took a few shots of the Hudson Fountain.

This fountain was donated to the people of Kirkintilloch in 1905 by Baillie Robert Hudson, one of the founding members of the town's former Lion Foundry. The figure on the top, according to a nearby plaque, represents Faustina, daughter of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, after whom the Antonine Wall is named. A section of the Antonine Wall runs through Peel Park near to the location of the statue.

I have blipped this fountain before, but I reckon if I don't mention it, nobody will notice. And anyway, I was tight for time. In other news: after getting home from the Christmas lunch, I managed to get most of my Christmas cards written and posted. What an eventful and full little day.
