Befuddled

What is important is to spread confusion, not eliminate it.

Cucumber’s xmas lunch today at the Fire Station, Waterloo. Tracey and Thomas (who has come from Sweden) are there when I arrive, laptops out and coffees steaming. I place a tactical order for a glass of Malbec.

We get our table and people drift in. Jo arrives via a delayed flight to City. Sal has come up from Somerset and has taken the opportunity to get a London hairdresser to refresh her red hair. Theo slouches in from Berlin. A bit later, Bev and Steve emerge from a Southampton train and, finally Aslak, the only London resident, arrives with his daughter Gaia.

It’s a fun lunch with lots of chatter, plenty of varied burgers, and a smattering of drink. And then it’s time to go. Jo and I are on the same flight back to Edinburgh. She has already lost the train ticket she bought this morning and is now struggling with a ticket machine. It’s all fine in the end and we get the plane without drama.

At home, I light the fire and watch The Final Days. I probably don’t need any food, but eat a veggie Thai curry that I picked up from the reduced section at Sainsburys. Nice.
