the hidden valley of light

Back up in Edinburgh tonight, after a most enjoyable few days in London - even managed to get along to Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea against Brighton yesterday afternoon :-)

And here's a short George Mackay Brown poem, taken from the pictured Christmas-gift:

Rackwick

Let no voice idly whisper here.
Between those strong red cliffs,
under that great mild sky
lies Orkney’s last enchantment,
the hidden valley of light.

Sweetness from the clouds pouring,
songs from the surging sea.
Fenceless fields, fishermen with ploughs
and old heroes, endlessly sleeping
in Rackwick’s compassionate hills.
