Day of Frost and Sunshine

A beautiful, frosty drive and then walk in the New Forest this morning with the family. It was gloriously sunny with lots of frozen puddles after the recent rain and many New Forest ponies to be seen during the drive but it was bitterly cold - I was glad we'd taken a flask of filtered coffee and some chocolate chip panettone to keep us fuelled!

After Mum and I had said goodbye to the rest of the family, we returned home for a bite to eat and to put on even more layers of clothing - an extra layer on our legs and a second coat - before heading off to Shell Bay via the chain ferry, in the hope that we might see the murmuration of starlings. Unfortunately, it didn't happen - too soon, I think, as the conditions were otherwise ideal - just a brief glimpse of a very distant formation. Hopefully, their numbers will build in the coming weeks. It was still a most enjoyable trip out with lots of people walking on the beach and a few other hopefuls waiting on top of the dunes. At least we weren't alone in our optimism! :)) We both enjoyed a goblet of mulled wine to warm us up when we got home :)

Many thanks for everything for yesterday's blip! Enjoy the rest of the week!
