Toi toi sunset

I found these Toi Tois beside the Christchurch estuary as the sun was setting. It was close to low tide and the estuary stunk of decaying sea lettuce.

Thanks to the proximity of the cities sewage ponds, the water quality is one notch above what is acceptable for recreational use. Plus, both the Avon and Heathcote Rivers discharge into the estuary. Whatever washes off our streets, foot paths and other hard surfaces ends up here.

From my wind surfing days I know what it's like. You push that knowledge aside when the tide and wind is right.

Anyway, smell and water quality issues aside. This was a lovely restorative sight after a stressful day at work. It's still summer and there is plenty to enjoy after work.
