MonoMonday "Start": Happy New Year from Newcastle!

A very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to all Blippers!

We took ourselves down to Newcastle Quayside a little before midnight for the promised firework display. Along with lots of others (including several photographers with tripods like me) we were all looking, and pointing our cameras, at the Tyne Bridge expecting the fireworks to be set off there. To our surprise they then appeared on the Gateshead side of the river, downstream of the Baltic Art Gallery. We were really lucky as we were positioned just opposite so we got a good view. I had to quickly swivel my camera however, to grab some photos of them.

Having felt a bit cheated that the fireworks weren't over the bridge, I've included a shot of the bridges as well. [Note: I've now realised that they usually have the fireworks where they were this year - it's just that we've never been before. But clearly we weren't the only ones taken by surprise.]

(Thanks to Skeena for taking on MM hosting this month; I decided to render the main blip in mono but there's a colour version as an extra.)

PS: More fireworks on flickr here.
