A time for everything

Out in the deep freeze!

Monday
As I write this at about 12.30 am the temperature outside is 0F (about -17C)! It’s been about a week now since we saw temperatures above freezing, and we have about another week to go before we will once again get above freezing! Whilst this is not particularly unusual for an Ohio winter in January, it is a number of years since we have experienced temperatures like this, having experienced four unusually mild winters while we were living in France, and our last couple in Ohio before we left were also pretty mild! For Laura it has been especially challenging of course, since she has been living in Kuwait since August, and her body has somewhat adjusted to the higher temperatures! Our high today was 14F under blue skies and sunshine. We treated ourselves to a lie-in this morning, since we were up until gone 1am, then I fixed us brunch. We worked on the jigsaw puzzle we have been doing for a couple of days, then we bundled up in multiple layers and ventured out into the ice box at Rowe Woods. I was mainly warm enough, except for my hands - I was already wearing two pairs of gloves. Laura reckoned her hands were fine, so gave me her glove liners - and with three layers I was finally warm enough!
Initially we thought we would just do a short walk - perhaps about 30 minutes - but by that time we had warmed up fairly well, so we walked further - for about an hour - long enough to get our 10,000 steps! It was quite scenic with the dusting of snow under the bright blue skies. This evening we went out to a late showing of Murder on the Orient Express, which we enjoyed. We practically had the theatre to ourselves - I guess most people are back at work tomorrow, so 10 pm would be rather late for them, and of course it’s been out for a while already.
