My Year

Overdoing the amps!

These are the cooking arrangements in our motorhome.

It used to have gas rings, grill and oven, but as we never used the oven we replaced it with a combi microwave.

We have only ever used this as a microwave, but tonight we decided to bake a crumble in it. Unfortunately the camp site electrics were a little on the light side and when drawing both microwave and oven power we kept tripping the electrics, which meant a few trips to the junction box to reset the power.

This is something which is usually only a problem on continental sites, which often only have 6 amps or 10 amps available, whereas in the UK 18 amps is usually on tap. We were drawing no more than 8 amps, but apparently that was too much for this particular set up.

Never mind though, with a bit of juggling between oven and microwave, we got the job done.
