Bark

This is the peeling bark on acer griseum. It's a great tree for a small garden as it grows pretty slowly, and the bark is always fascinating to look at, especially back-lit when it glows chestnut red (not that that's evident in monochrome of course...). 

Very windy today, and I didn't have an opportunity to go for a walk so couldn't check the river level, but given the lowish rainfall I should think it's going down now. I'll have a look tomorrow or over the weekend
