Heavy, wet snow

4 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow fell overnight after several hours of freezing rain & sleet.

I was outside at 7am so I could get photos while the snow was still pristine. Had to be careful and walk the property line and take photos of all three neighbour’s homes too. I have sent them each postcards of their winter wonderland homes.

I got to cleaning the snow & sleet from the bird feeders etc. . . And Kent cleared the front path and the back porch/patio.

Since Kent has a truck with 4 wheel drive, new set of tires and weighted down in the back with I don’t know how many pounds of salt for our water softener, we slowly ventured down the road, just into Castle Hayne to see if anything was open. We then checked with our neighbours and a few other people we know, to ensure they had everything they needed. Kent went down the road to reset one neighbour’s breaker box that had tripped.

The temperature got up to 40°F/4°C and so there was some melting that took place. Tonight the temperature is to be -9°C/15°F and so there is going to be a lot of wicked ice is the morning. We aren’t supposed to see temperatures above freezing again until Monday so this will be tough.

What a way to start 2018!
