Anne's Daily Encounters

Blue Hour

A farewell to the compound of the PJK barracks my son lived in the past 3 years and to this view from there.

The Prinses Juliana Kazerne was built during WW II as HQ of  Seys Inquart, Nazi occupier of Holland then. As that occupation was ended on May 8th 1945, the building became vacant and it ended up as a property of the state. For decades it was the top location for the Dutch Ministery of Defence; a.o. NATO conferences were held here (what irony!) and its parquet-floor often saw dancing feet of the Happy Few... Rulers & Royals and whoever were in their hands.

Due to the economic crisis of 2008+ the Dutch government had to economize in many ways and the sell off of its properties included this location too; downsizing as my kids learned me to say. From the time is was on the market for sales the property was handed to a non-squatting organisation who rented it, and my son was one of them renting his home there. Now the building is sold to an investor who will have the building renovate into Exclusive Homes
