Anne's Daily Encounters

Bonus upon Bonus today

Our view from the hotel when returned from a wonderful roadtrip over the Lassithi Plain with snow on its mountain range of the Oro Dikti with the highest top of 2148 meters. Lassithi Plain levels at 850 meters and is surrounded by an intitial range of mountains, that are backed up than in the South West by those Dikti Mountains.
Ofcourse the road there winds and climbs up or "falls down"... Steep ascends and descends there too and I love driving those rural roads as they're unknown to me and unfold spectacular scenes all along.
We got into the Lassithi Oropedio (= plain) from the East, from Agios Nikolaos and left it in the North via Lagou, Pinakiano from where I took the pix in extra... Windmills of Venetian times then also built on the high ridged of the mountains as there much wind is caught for sure and always... no new invention to locate windmills at such extreme windy spots.

We were very lucky with the good weather conditions in East Crete what made our roadtrip a great pleasure + we'd visited at the start of our trip a small church with gorgeous frescoes... finding this treasure had already made our day perfect and visiting Lassithi Plain in such good weather and gorgeous views was like a bonus and then when arriving at the hotel Sunset as in my main picture... it was like being spoilt.
Good weather in the East of Crete what's a great contrast to the rest of Crete and Greece and Europe, where rain- or heavy snowshowers fell and fall.
