Aftermath

Hoping I might just beat Davesfotos today. Sadly because it's the kind of weather that isn't likely to drag me outside again.

Look on the positive side, it is dry and yesterday was beautifully sunny, the PV having a chance to do some work. And it means that for the most part, all the rescue teams in most of Bavaria can take a breather. Looks like the Danube at Passau, on the border to Austria, will not be as badly hit as feared. There are however some villages and towns in the east & north that had flooded cellars.

The situation along the other side of the watershed not far from us which dumps its water in Lake Constance and then the Rhine is however still plaguing the western side of Germany around Cologne after a series of rivers come together - the Neckar, Main, Mosel joining the Rhine.

Storm Burglind (aka Eleanor) together with low depression Christine not only dumped loads of rain but also knocked down more trees. The Blip is at the location I have Bliped at least once in the last month. I actually don't blame Burglind too much for this scene. It's down to the, for me, ridiculous forest management of the State Forestry people. Why they cut gaping holes ideal to let in wind turbulence to already weakened trees which have been thinned out, is beyond me. Every time we have a puff, down go a few more.

Actually ought to be more concerned as it's our taxpayer's money that is wasted. Broken trunks and generally wind uprooted timber is worthless and of course, the costs of working on getting the equipment moved all over the place just for a few trees are disproportionately high at a time the wood price is likely to fall if there is so much coming on the market.

Flash enjoyed his walk and a bit of adventure for him clambering over the fallen trunks. I was frozen when we got home. +2°C. mist and a slight very cold breeze. I guess though compared to our US Eastern seaboard colleagues, we can't complain. They do have the bonus though of providing us over in Europe with some spectacular photos.

Just checked - Dave has yet again beaten me. Cunning the "French".
