Hole in the sky

The rain stopped overnight but left quite a lot of clouds behind, especially lingering in hollows in the hills.
We did Mum's shopping (and some of our own) in the morning and went for a walk up Latrigg in the afternoon.
Before the floods we often did a round loop using the old railway but this is no longer possible due to missing bridges so we decided to attempt the Lakeland Trails route along the side of the hill and then over the top. We made a slight diversion due to taking a wrong track but then re-found the path which has great views toward St. John's-in-the-Vale and finally found our way to the top where the view into Newlands was illuminated briefly by the sun breaking through. There was also a bit of a diversion on the way down when we attempted a new way and were thwarted by a steep muddy path but we found a way and had a lovely walk.
I then cooked a pot roast, Yorkshire puds and various roast veg (and baked apples).
