Starting out

Got up a bit early so could get some breakfast before going to run Keswick parkrun. They start at 9am in England but at 9.30am up here.
Whilst waiting to start we were talking to a friend we see at the Lakeland Trails who told us they were doing a test run of a new parkrun at Whinlatter at 10.30.
Mr Rat ran with me and I did a reasonable time and then we decided we would go up to Whinlatter, even though it sounded tough, and went to fetch more clothes before heading up to the carpark.
The start was just about where this marshal was and, after a brief downhill, was a long up. Just as it was getting a bit tough there were wonderful views across to Skiddaw and I began to thaw out a bit. From then it was more up and down and up and down with plenty of interest but not for hill haters! My time was more than 9 minutes slower than Keswick but we felt the extra effort deserved the refreshments in the cafe. It's 1st proper run is this coming Saturday, I'm sure there will be plenty up for the challenge.
The extra is Skiddaw from Braithwaite on the way back to Mum's.
