Compost Happens

Today's blip features another one of those places I've been meaning to photography for some time but yet time has prevented me from capturing.

Christchurch South Community Gardens is a not for profit organisation which provides community education and development opportunities. Their gardens of Strickland Street are full of character; with allotments full of vegetables and borders stacked with colour they hark back to the days of the 'kiwi quarter-acre backyard paradise.'

In a time when gardens are shrinking and becoming more ornamental, it's great to see an organisation that focuses on promoting a sustainable way of life and also empowering people to produce their own food.

Walking around the gardens I was taken by this lovingly created compost bin and colourful backdrop. It's air of optimism and fantastic colour just seemed to reflect the ethos of the bountiful allotments.
