Thank You For the Days ..

A Day at the Seaside

This morning, just as we were thinking about starting to paint the sitting room ceiling, there was a strange glow in the sky - yes, the sun!  We were out of the door and on the road to Berwick before you could say 'matte emulsion''.

We  set about walking the first stretch of the Berwickshire Coastal Path, heading north. This wasn't a good decision - the track was narrow and muddy and skirted a huge caravan park and then a golf course, with steep cliffs on the other side.  The views over the Northumberland coast were good, but it's not easy to look when you are slipping and sliding and aware that in some places you could end up in the North Sea if you weren't paying attention.  I'm sure the next section will be much better.

We felt in need of a solid lunch. Someone had recommended the chippy in West Street, and indeed the fish was excellent - fresh out of the sea and hanging over the sides of the plate. It was like stepping back in time -  formica tables and frothy coffee and good old boys playing dominoes and putting the world to rights.

After that, a stroll round the streets near the harbour - lots of interesting little shops. I took the selfies in the window of one, and the extra is the ceiling in another.

To finish, we called in at the local pet rescue to see if they had the cats for us - alas, they had very few, and they were all too young. We need elderly cats who won't frighten our bird visitors.

Home now, with the stove on, and deciding that we really don't need to eat another meal today!
