A Look Up Tow Hill After Snow

What weird weather fluctuations we've had lately! It was frigid for several weeks. Then the temperatures rose ridiculously - it felt like springtime, and we awoke to birdsong. Then it poured and poured. The rain was followed by dropping temperatures, and it iced in the middle of the night. After that, it snowed on top of the ice; just a few inches, really, but it was pretty.

My husband and I decided to walk up to the local gameland, SGL 176, the Scotia Pine Barrens. This is the way we get there. We cross the road and hike up Tow (rhymes with low) Hill. It's about a 10- to 15-minute walk from this point to the gameland parking lot, pretty much straight uphill.

The snow plow hadn't gone yet when I took this photo (it would arrive when we reached about the half-way point on the hill), but people had driven on the road, and pets had walked along the edges. So there were many interesting tracks.

The sunlight was starting to break at the edges of things, and blue sky hadn't arrived yet at this point, but it was on its way. The white road seemed to wind up and away from us, disappearing finally into the distance.
