For a couple of weeks now there has hardly been a bird moving in the garden. We are assuming that the frequent visits of the Sparrowhawk were the cause. Whatever the cause suddenly this morning they were back. Not quite the numbers we are used to but considerably more than of late.
One of the birds I saw first was this little Goldcrest. Generally seen in coniferous/evergreen trees and bushes this one was hunting through the leaf litter on the ground in among the Flag Irises. Not the best shot but they are sufficiently unusual in the garden let alone on the ground I felt I wanted to use this shot.
