The Faerie Pools

I had a day in the Cuillin today; in Glen Brittle. I spent the morning at the Faerie Pools - which is where this picture is. Beautiful, clear mountain water, extremely deep in some places and with underwater stone arches. Stunning.

In the afternoon, I climbed from the Glen Brittle campsite up into Coire Lagan to see the Lochan. Hauntingly atmospheric, surrounded by the towering peaks of Sgurr Dearg (with the Inaccessible Pinnacle tantalisingly just out of sight), Sgurr MhicChoinich, Sgurr Thearlaich, Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr Sgumain; all topped with snow. But impossible to capture such a deep bowl. And of course the stunning view out over Loch Brittle to Rum (with its own Cuillin), Sanday and Canna. On the walk down I was treated to the sunset. A privilege indeed.

Having been more of a hillwalker in recent years it was both tiring and exhilerating to be out in some real mountains, even if not on the tops (the Cuillin are not for inexperienced solo walkers). I take my hat off to the people who construct and repair the amazing mountain paths - thank you, whoever you are.

A good start to the week on Skye.
