This morning we bussed to one of the two nunneries in Meteora. Meteora means 'suspended in the air'- connected with 'meteor' - and these rocks really seem to be. Despite having been told before we came that it was essential to have a car here, we walked to the last two sites, then down the mountains to Kalambaka. Footsore - yes, but it's perfectly possible.

For the last couple of days we have been wondering about these vibrant fabrics inaccessibly in a crevice up the mountain. It turns out that every St George's Day (23 April, as in the UK, unless Easter falls after 23 April, in which case St George moves to Easter Monday) the people of Kastraki carry the cloths to the foot of the mountain, then fit young climbers carry them up the sheer rock face and attach them in this disused monastery.
