1st Birthday

To be honest I can't remember if it really was and I am awful at judging ages of babies, children and even policeman, especially over 60 years after the event.

In the garden of my first house in Beach Camp, Palo Seco, Trinidad, No. 26. It was the oil company's private housing estate for expats with its own sports and social club, cricket pitch and pavilion, kindergarten, primary school and even security force.

The "camp" still exists to this day in very much unchanged form. I saw a Youtube video done by someone filming the route to the camp for guests going there for a wedding. The security hut at the entrance is exactly as it was back then.

If the Blip map function had a satellite view function, I could plonk the pin on the house. In the background is the sea with Venezuela less than 20km away. One rarely got to actually see Venezuelan coastline as it was the Orinoco delta and thus flat with just mangrove swamps. Also meant that the water at the beach below the house was always murky from the sediment and not the normal clear Caribbean quality. However, it was clean as there were no settlements on the other side. Having said that I seem to remember that the sewage from our camp was pumped out here!!
