Sunset Cloudscape

The view from the film office window at dusk this evening was a source of temporary distraction.

My flying instructor explained the meteorological condition most eloquently on his aerodrome Facebook page:

”Winter weather produces stunning cloudscapes and Damyns Hall Aerodrome provides a brilliant vantage point.

At dusk this evening, dense moisture-filled cloud masses produced dramatic deep shadowed areas with swathes of blue, tobacco and red hues over the airfield.

These colour variations appear as the low sun scatters refracted light within the atmosphere and longer wavelengths reflect back off of the low clouds. Higher up, short wavelength light scatters much further, producing a vibrant blue backdrop.”
