a lifetime burning

Weather for Ducks

Its not really good weather for ducks, its cold wet and windy and I suspect that even the ducks are feeling a tad miserable this morning.  I'm staying safely indoors with a nice cuppa, its a day for Hygge, as they say in Sweden.  Actually I shall not be sitting around for long, there are plenty of chores to do, it being the weekend.

As I was making this drink, the small birds were busy on the feeder.  We had goldfinches, a blue tit and a robin all eating at the same time, with a couple of fat pigeons, a dunnock and a pied wag tail on cleaning duties below them.  A sparrow hawk swooped across the lawn and perched on the shed, and the instant it did the other birds took of as one, as if their lives depended upon it.  Which I suppose they probably did.  The sparrow hawk looked a bit wet and didn't stay long, so there was no chance of a shot, but as it took off you could see small birds exploding left and right away from its flight path.
