Common Copper

This morning I was working in the greenhouse when something fluttered past my face. I chased after it and found a common copper butterfly. Thankfully it was still there when I’d fetched my camera. Getting a decent shot of it was not easy because it was constantly on the move. To make matters worse the background was the white cloth I use to filter the sunshine, and beyond that was a bright white sky. A lot of detail has been lost compensating for the strong backlighting.

These small New Zealand butterflies have regional variations in their wing patterns.
