Getting ready

The euonymus is getting ready to flower, later in the spring. The nodding heads will become huge cylinders of lime green flowers with tiny blood-red centre spots, and the stalks will flop out under the weight of them. This turned out to be the right plant in the right place. It's grown big in just a couple of years and is almost too much for its neighbours. But to have a happy plant is worth putting up with a bit of space-hogging. Down nearer to ground level next year's flower spikes can be seen, waiting to take the place of this year's when they're pruned off later in the year.
