Butterflies and Birds

These butterflies and birds are actually crystals formed on a handmade pottery bowl in a glazing process perfected by potter and artist Frank Friedman.

I met Frank when he was well into retirement and I was still working full time. We were both members of the Burlington Potters Guild - Frank as a very talented full-fledged artist, and me as treasurer and wanna-be potter. He worked magic with crystalline glazes, which he fired in an old gas kiln at the local art centre which was home to the guild. Frank was also known for his Pecan Pie, which he would sneak into the centre to share at the Guild's Christmas potluck.
